I love the elegant look that etching produces on glass! It is permanent, washable, and lovely to use in my home and also great for gift giving. Today, I will show you some of the beautiful things that I have etched and we will also talk about the process. Let’s get started…

Look at these lovely pieces…a vase that I had in my cupboard, and a cake stand and jar that I rescued from Goodwill! On each piece I used some of the All-over Pattern stencils from Magnolia Design Co. https://bit.ly/3Kx24vF and some of the regular stencils found here: Magnoliadiy.com. The brand of etching cream that I use is: Armour Etch-etching cream. I get mine from Hobby Lobby but it is also available at other craft stores and on-line. Etching these items really took them up a notch and it was SO easy to do! Tip: because etching cream is permanent, do not get it on any area that you don’t want etched. If you do, wash it off immediately before the etching process begins.

Armour Etch is a thick paste-like substance that permanently etches into the glass. I use a stiff brush to apply it on the stencil. Then I let it sit for a few minutes and remove the stencil. Tip: Amour Etch will not harm your stencil, but I do recommend washing your stencil as soon as you remove it. Now, it’s time to wait…I let the Armour Etch sit on the glass for about 15 minutes, so that it has time to properly etch the glass. Then I run the glass under warm water and wash the etching cream off. Don’t worry…you may think that the etching is being washed away…but it’s not!

Just think how pretty it would be to set your table with these etched mugs. I got these mugs from Dollar Tree…no one would ever guess that! I used a beautiful All-over Pattern stencil on them https://bit.ly/3Kx24vF and I’m in love with the look!

Here I etched drinking glasses, a rescued vase and a lovely serving bowl, that I found when I was thrifting. Your imagination, some etching cream and a couple of stencils, will create beautiful items to use for entertaining or for special gifts. Tip: if you have sensitive skin, please use some plastic gloves while applying etching cream. I have never had a problem using it, but I want you to have a pleasant experience!

On these vases, I used 2 different types of stencils from Magnoliadiy.com They are each unique and can be used in different seasons of the year.

These glasses and vase each have a distinct look. The glasses have the Leopard Pattern stencil on them. Even the Waves stencil is etched on the vase. Both stencils can be found at Magnoliadiy.com

What are the key Benefits of Etched Glass?

  • Aesthetic Appeal: Provides a classic, sophisticated look.
  • Durability: The etched patterns are permanent and resistant to wear.
  • Customization: Allows for intricate designs and personalization.

Thanks for joining me today to discuss glass etching! This is one more thing that you can add to your crafting skills, that will bring you joy for many years to come.
