Home Decor
Soon the leaves will be crunching under our shoes. as we take a walk in the cool breezes of Fall. We will need to add a sweater or jacket when we go out to do errands. Then it will feel SO good to come home to a toasty fire in the fireplace!! All of the colors that God paints His creation in the Fall, will have us in awe of His majesty! So…Now is the time to start our fall decor ideas so that we are ready to bring the outdoor look inside!
The first thing that comes to my mind, when I think of Fall, is pumpkins. Do you carve pumpkins? Do you roast the seeds? I remember the fun times of carving pumpkins with my boys, they loved it. Now, I make pumpkins for my home to bring back those precious memories. Above, is one of my signature pumpkin ‘stuffies’ made with canvas duck cloth, that has different Magnolia pattern stencils inked on it. (Pattern stencils available here: https://bit.ly/2DlblbF) I also used the chalk paste/ink pens to give dimension and interest to the pumpkins. Isn’t it cute! (pens are available here: https://bit.ly/3tdPO9I )
Have you ever used the silver tiles from Dollar Tree for your crafting? I like to paint them and then cut them into different shapes. Above, you can see that I made an adorable candy corn sign and also a pumpkin topiary. If you want to give the tin a distressed look, then dry brush a darker color over the raised parts of the tile. Tip: when using the tiles, be aware that they are only stuck to the backing sheet around the edges.
I’m not a big Halloween fan, but I think this stencil from Magnolia Design Co https://bit.ly/2DlblbF is adorable! The thing that is so unique about our stencils, is that you can use them over and over again and make them look totally different, depending on the surface that you use. Above, you can see that I used a white tea towel and adorned it with a small crisscross bow. The next time I used the stencil, I put it on a white round and made a door hanger. All surfaces are available here:https://bit.ly/3quMHZY One other difference between the two is: on the fabric I used Ink https://bit.ly/3mfetYc and then heat set it…on the door hanger I used Chalk Paste https://bit.ly/2XstAD1 and then embellished it with greenery and a bow. Tip: If you want to make your chalk paste permanent, use a clear spray sealer over the stenciled area.
Wreathes are so much fun to have around the house…both inside and out! On the left, I used a wreath that I purchased at Hobby Lobby and then I inserted a wood round that is stenciled with one of Magnolia’s faith based stencils. I also embellished it with flowers from Dollar Tree. On the right, I made a wreath from brown craft paper and old dictionary pages. I traced leaves and acorns from patterns that I printed from Google and than attached them to a metal wreath from Dollar Tree…so easy and budget friendly!
I love to hang banners on our mantel! The first banner is made from cotton duck cloth, and embellished with pulled string flowers made from 5 inch wide burlap ribbon from Wal-mart. You can watch my pulled string flower tutorials here: https://www.youtube.com/user/HiediScott Then I show some banners that I made with patterned stencils, https://bit.ly/3Kx24vF , cotton duck cloth, and Ink https://bit.ly/3mfetYc . I used jute string, wooden clothes pins, and strips of fabric to finish these banners.
In this picture I’m showing one of my all-time favorite Fall stencils, the Autumn Leaf Pattern https://bit.ly/3Kx24vF and on the right tray is the Happy Fall stencil, with 3 different styles of pumpkins. As you can see, I used all of my lovely Fall colors of Chalk Pastes https://bit.ly/2XstAD1 and then blended them in a swirl motion, to achieve this beautiful look. Have you tried blending different colors of Chalk Pastes yet? It’s very satisfying and you get an incredible look with little effort!
In these pictures, I was inspired to make candy corn crafts because of my obsession with candy corn! I can’t wait until it shows up in the stores every year and I just have to have a stash of it around the house ALL Fall. Are you a candy corn eater? I know it’s either a love/hate thing for many people. The first picture shows the adorable candy corn garland that I found at Dollar Tree. I used the pieces on a Magnolia 18×18 pillow case https://bit.ly/2FB1jEi and used my favorite polyfil that I get at Wal-mart (Crafter’s Choice Polyfill) to stuff the pieces. Then, I just HAD to make a candy corn ‘stuffie’ for my front door! I painted the cotton duck cloth (you can find duck cloth at Wal-mart, Hobby Lobby, or on-line at Amazon) with a couple different colors of acrylic paint. Tip: NEVER use acrylic paint with your stencils, it will clog the mesh and ruin them for future use! Before I glued the candy corn ‘stuffie’ together and stuffed it with polyfil, I stenciled on some Fall Words from my Magnolia stencil stash https://bit.ly/3Iteju1 and then embellished the ‘stuffie’ with my trade mark dots and dashes, using the Chalk Paste/Ink pens. https://bit.ly/3tdPO9I These turned out so cute and I love the the whimsical look of them.
I hope you enjoyed a peek at some of my many Fall projects that I have done on DiyDreaming https://www.facebook.com/DiyDreaming/ If you would like to look at my tutorials, I have a list at the bottom of this post. Did you know that I am also on Pinterest? I will also include that link at the bottom. Be creative this Fall using the many colors of Chalk Paste, Ink, and stencils, that I have available on my website: magnoliadiy.com While you are out and about, remember to thank God for His beautiful creation and the vibrant colors of Fall!
