Instructions:
Select the size white stretched canvas that you want to use.
Paint one coat of black paint on the canvas. I used Waverly Chalk Acrylic No Prep Paint in Ink. Allow to dry completely.

Sand and drips or thick parts to be relatively smooth. Remove any dust with damp paper towel.
Spray all or part of the painted canvas with several thick coats of hairspray. You can spray the entire surface or just the edges. There is no specific kind or quality of hairspray needed. Allow it to dry thoroughly.
Paint a coat of either white or cream colored paint over entire canvas. I used Waverly Chalk Acrylic No Prep Paint in Plaster. Allow to dry thoroughly. When it’s dry you will see the crackels.

Sand the edges to reveal more black. Sand the center to reveal more black and smooth the surface.
Use a ruler and a black chalk paste pen to draw shiplap lines. Allow to dry and sand lightly in some places.
Apply Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Black Soot to the edges. Brush it across the center in various spots.
Spray Clear Matte Sealer Spray over entire canvas.

Fuzz your Mustard Seed stencil 3 or 4 times on a t-shirt, tea towel, jeans or Tacky Towel. This makes it a little less sticky and less likely to pull up the paint on your canvas.
Place the stencil on your canvas and apply black chalk paste with a small squeegee. Cover the stencil and remove and blobs that remain. Do not keep going over and over your stencil. This can push too much chalk paste under the stencil and result in a blurry impression. Let it dry thoroughly.

Spray one coat of Clear Matte Sealer Spray over the entire canvas.
Enjoy your piece of Crackled Shiplap Stretched Canvas Faith Art!
