Squiggles, Dots, and Dashes!

DIY Crafts

How to jazz up your crafting.

When I started my love of making “stuffies,” I realized that I had to add something to them to make each of them unique. That’s when I started my habit of using dots, dashes and squiggles. Are you curious about this wierd topic? Let’s dive in and check it out…

Look at each of the pictures above carefully. Now imagine them without the dashes and squiggles around the edges. Pretty plain, right? I think I have really taken each of them up a few notches by adding the extra touches!

The accessories that you are looking at above, are the tools that I use to make the dots, dashes, and squiggles. The pack that I use the most is the 1st one…the Ink/Paste Combo Pack. (found here: https://bit.ly/3tdPO9I) The others are equally as good, but you know that I tend toward mostly neutral colors. All of the Markers can be found on my website here: https://bit.ly/3gmYvHj

Can you believe that Christmas will be here soon! Let’s take a look at the above Christmas “stuffies.” They are all made from cotton duck cloth, (from either Wal-mart or Hobby Lobby), then I painted the fabric with acrylic paint, stenciled them (with stencils from magnoliadiy.com), and then the magic with the Magnolia Pens started! I even drew the squiggles around the top of the ornament to make it look realistic! Then I put curly-cues in the circles to give them depth. Which of these techniques are you going to try?

During the summer I had so much fun creating the bee, lemon, flower, strawberry and watermelons “stuffies”. They have such a professional look with the added dots, squiggles, and dashes. These could be purchased in a retail store, BUT they are made with love and some artistic touches. Each piece is special in it’s own way and so pleasing to the eye.

These stretched canvases were painted with Magnolia Ink and then I used the Ink Pens to free-hand flowers on them. I used the God Is Good Stencil with Chalk Paste to top off the projects. You can find all stencils on my website here: https://bit.ly/3Iteju1

Look at these mason jar “stuffies”, the Ink/Paste Pen pack let me make realistic looking jar tops and the edging of each jar gives depth to the projects.

I believe this was my first “stuffie” that I used the dots, dashes, and squiggles on. To be honest, I think it’s also one of my favorites! These sunflowers looked lovely on my front door. Next Summer I can use them on my covered porch, or even in my kitchen.

Check out these owls. I Googled owls printables and then printed a pattern I chose to use with cotton duck cloth. They are so much fun…right down to the eyelashes! All of the little flowers, zigzags, dots, and dashes are made with my Magnolia Pens.

Here is how I made these unique tea towels: I free-handed the flowers with the Ink Pens, then filled them in with diluted Ink and then added details with the Pens. After heat setting them, I ended up with lovely tea towels that can be washed and used over and over. You can find all of the beautiful colors of Magnolia Ink here: https://bit.ly/3mfetYc

From Valentines Day through Christmas, I use the ChalkPaste/Ink Pens continually in my crafting! I hope I have showed you how to start giving your crafts that extra special boost by using the variety of Ink and Chalk Paste Pens that I offer has on my Magnolia Website: magnoliadiy.com

Check out the tutorials that I have listed below and don’t forget to watch me daily on my Facebook page: DIYDreaming where I show you how to “Create a Beautiful Life!”
